ETS will offer the new Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC®) to test takers in China on November 25, 2007, ETS and the Occupational Skill Testing Authority of China (OSTA), announced today.
The new test, a redesigned version of the TOEIC, measures the everyday English skills of people working in an international business environment. It includes more authentic English-language reading and listening tasks and provides score users with more information about test takers’ abilities. The TOEIC Speaking and Writing Tests will be introduced in December 2007 to complement the Listening and Reading skills measurements which premiered in China in 2002.
“There has been tremendous enthusiasm and excitement about the launch of the new test in China,” says Bhaskar Pant, ETS Global BV’s Managing Director for Asia-Pacific Operations. at the new TOEIC China launch ceremony. “Our decade of research conducted among the businesses and corporations confirmed the market needs for assessments that reflect authentic tasks, such as those encountered in the global business environment. The changes we’ve made to the TOEIC test will increase the test’s value to Chinese individuals seeking success in the international business arena, and it will help companies determine whether their employees have the English-communication skills to ensure that success.”
“Since the first China administration in late 2002, the TOEIC test has gained wide recognition among hundreds of enterprises and a network among nearly one hundred universities has been established, providing more than one hundred thousand test administrations in China,” says Mr. Liu Kang, Director General of OSTA. “The new TOEIC will open a doorway for Chinese business people to improve their communicative English competency in the global workplace, and meanwhile will further help enhance the occupational skill standards in China.”
The redesigned Listening and Reading test will first be offered in China on November 25, 2007 in 11 cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The registration for the new TOEIC test (Listening and Reading) will open from August 1 to October 25, 2007 via online registration and at Registration stations.
There will be no change in the test format, and test scores from past administrations remain valid and equivalent to the new test.
The new TOEIC Speaking and Writing Tests will be delivered through the ETS Internet–based test (iBT) delivery system, and test takers are able to take both tests independently from the Listening and Reading test based on their needs. The first Speaking and Writing Tests will be offered in December, 2007 in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou initially.
